Flexibility is a major strength of the communication department. Once students complete 15 hours of core communication courses, they then select one of two majors: communication studies or graphic design. Our commuincation studies major also has two different concentrations you can choose from: organizational communication and digital media production.
These majors are designed to lead toward acceptance into graduate school for communication or secure entry-level positions in a variety of career fields, including Media Production, Public Relations, Video Editing, Advertising, Layout and Design, Marketing, Fundraising, Human Resource Development, Communication Training and Consulting, etc.
To be officially considered as a communication studies or a graphic design major, students must hold sophomore status or higher, be in good standing, and hold a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 2.50 or higher. Students with less than 2.50 will not be eligible to receive a degree from the Communication Department of Emmanuel College.
Communication department majors whose cumulative GPA drops below 2.50 are no longer considered as such. Acceptance back into the major is based on the decision of communication faculty. Students will not be admitted or readmitted into the program without the minimum 2.50 GPA.
Students who successfully meet the requirements below will be recommended to the Registrar for graduation with a degree in communication studies or graphic design from Emmanuel College:
1. Completion of the College’s core curriculum.
2. Completion of the major requirements of the Bachelor of Arts or Science in communication studies or graphic design.
3. A grade of “C-“ or higher in each communication course required for the major.
