Dr. Emma Pettyjohn, professor, received her B.A. from Shorter College and M.M. and D.M.A from the University of Georgia. She previously taught at Piedmont College and joined the EC Music Department in January 2003. She teaches piano and organ, keyboard-related classes, music history, and sight singing/ear training. She is also chair of the Cultural Awareness Program Committee. Dr. Pettyjohn currently serves as the organist at Central Presbyterian Church in Athens. She is a member of the Music Teachers National Association and American Guild of Organists. An active promoter of women’s music, Dr. Pettyjohn organized a concert of choral music by women composers for the Athens Choral Society and has published an article on keyboard music by women composers in Georgia Music News.
Dr. Pettyjohn and her husband, Marvin, have two boys, Calvin and Conner. They reside in Winterville, Georgia.
