Most people dream of a college life far away from their siblings. College is the time to make a name for yourself and not live in the shadow of your sibling.
Sisters Hannah Logue, junior, and Moriah Logue, sophomore, could not be any more different from this status quo. They arrived at Emmanuel College in the fall of 2018, eager to step onto the soccer field and into the classroom…together.
Hannah had already completed her freshman year at a Division 1 school near the girls’ home in Fairfield, Pennsylvania when she decided she wanted to transfer to be in a Christian atmosphere.
“I wasn’t surrounded by the things I wanted to be surrounded by”, says Hannah. “I wasn’t going to grow as a person. I was going to be torn down if I stayed.”
Once Moriah found Emmanuel College through a different school’s athletic page, she contacted Nathan and Bess Harrell, the school’s Head and Assistant Women’s Soccer coaches.
Moriah says she wasn’t going to back down from her desire to be at the same school as her older sister.
“I told Coach Harrell ‘Here is my sister. Here is her game film. She wants to come. Reach out to her.’”
That’s just what Nathan Harrell did.
Now, the girls join each other on the field every day, just as they did growing up. Except now, they’re playing in the big town of Franklin Springs.
Since the girls were homeschooled, lived in a town with a population of 512, that only had one stoplight, the move to Emmanuel College was an exciting one.
“We tell people we upgraded,” says Moriah. “There are two grocery stores. That’s huge.”
As the girls transitioned to EC, their relationship as sisters and teammates stayed the same: never a competition, but complementation.
Hannah plays Forward and Moriah plays Center Mid and they say they’re like two puzzle pieces.
“We know what our jobs are,” says Moriah. “When we’re together, we fit so well.”
Not only do the girls complement one another on the field, but they can’t seem to get enough of one another off the field, either.
“We lived with our little sister in a triple-bunk bed up until the day we left”, says Moriah. “We live together here at school, so the only time we’re apart is in our classes.”
Hannah echoes what Moriah says, saying “We’re always together. I feel like we’re not apart.”
The girls’ don’t get tired of each other, either, and plan for their relationship to always be this way.
“I feel like we’re always going to live close to each other,” says Hannah. “I don’t think we will ever move far from one another.”
Moriah jokes that Hannah will live in her basement after they graduate.
“I’ll be her nanny,” says Hannah.
Since they’ve been at Emmanuel, the girls say they can see major growth as a result of being an athlete at a Christian school.
“The coaches incorporate Jesus into their lifestyle”, says Hannah. “We pray before and after every practice and I didn’t have that at my old school. I feel like my team here is a family.”
Moriah says she’s learned how to communicate better, as well.
“Coach is adamant about having hard conversations if something is hard,” she said. “He’s trying to develop us more as people than as athletes. Most of us aren’t going to go out and play professionally, but we’re being prepared for life.”
For now, the Logue sisters are more than happy being at Emmanuel College. The opportunity to play for a Christian school alongside your sister is the chance of a lifetime, and they wouldn’t have it any other way.
