The Emmanuel Arts Academy’s 5th Annual Fine Arts Camp welcomed 29 children ages 8-14 to campus in June to explore their creative side and have fun.
During the week-long summer day camp, they are able to develop their artistic abilities through classes in music (voice, guitar, piano, band), art, drama, photography, dance, creative writing and musical theatre.
“My favorite part about camp is the drama class because it’s active, and we get to play around,” camper Jonathan Grizzle says. “There’s no way to have stage fright because you’re having fun! It also helped me learn how to be responsible and memorize Bible verses.”
Campers work on pieces all week that are showcased in a Friday night recital to share what they have learned with family and friends.
“Fine Arts Camp is one of my favorite weeks of the year, and I am always astounded at what these kids accomplish in a week,” says Dr. Deborah Stark, founder and director of Emmanuel Arts Academy. “Tears of gratefulness pour down my cheeks as I stand in awe of what the Lord can do through a loving and skilled staff and talented students. We form relationships, invest in young lives and provide much needed role models and vision for those aspiring in the arts.”
A group of EC students who work as staff members, teaching assistants or class instructors enjoy the camp as much as the children.
“Getting to interact with the kids is a lot of fun!” says Briana Kay, staff member and teaching assistant. “Being a music major, I love watching the kids learn and experience music.”
Each day begins with “silly songs” followed by a devotion and worship set before campers go to the first of their three classes. Each day also includes games, such as Frisbee, baseball and dodge ball.
Emmanuel Arts Academy is a community extension of Emmanuel College offering arts training for children, youth and adults throughout the year. During the fall and spring semesters, students have the opportunity to take private lessons or learn in various group classes.
