A team of 12 EC students and two faculty/staff members worked with local churches in Nicaragua in the cities of Chinindega and Chichigualpa from March 9-17 during their Spring Break.
The trip was the project of Jazmin Konnick as she fulfills her duties as the current Miss Emmanuel and is her fourth time serving in the country of Nicaragua.
“When I first thought about doing Nicaragua as my service project for Miss Emmanuel, I had a plan. But God had something else in store,” Konnick said. “Every door, every connection to the trip, every dollar we’ve raised points to God.”
The team partnered with a local pastor and his family to work in churches he has planted. "We picked up trash off the side of the road, and we did a construction type of day where we leveled out some dirt so they could build a foundation for a school. Mostly, we worked in feeding stations. In the evenings we would play soccer or basketball with some of the locals and do street ministry," she said.
Many of the students on trip had never been to Nicaragua, and some had never been on a mission trip.
“This was His trip, and we were His servants” Konnick added. "I wanted to go to Nicaragua because it's a place that has captured my heart for the past four years and just seeing the joy and love that the people have, especially when they have nothing. But they have everything because they have Jesus, and that's all they need."
