At its April 14, 2011 meeting, the Georgia Professional Standards Commission (PSC) approved the new Health and Physical Education Teacher Education Program at Emmanuel College. This degree program will be administered within the School of Education and prepare future teachers in Health and Physical Education in grades P-12. A Board of Examiners from the PSC visited the College in February and their report to the full commission indicated that Emmanuel College met all eight required standards.
According to Dr. Vicki Hollinshead, Dean of the School of Education, “This new program is in keeping with the philosophy of Emmanuel College which is based on a Christian worldview and the School of Education’s mission which is to integrate faith, living, learning, and teaching in such a way as to prepare prospective teachers to become servant leaders who make a positive contribution in a diverse society”.
The program director, Dr. Richard Reiselt, indicated the courses required for this program will begin being offered during the 2012 Fall Semester. He espouses that “This will be a welcome addition to the variety of degree programs offered at Emmanuel College. Once the word gets out, I anticipate this program will be one of the largest enrollments in the College”.
