Homecoming is back! We hope that many of our alumni will return to campus March 18-20 for Homecoming 2022. What a great opportunity to see one another face-to-face! We have a full schedule of events planned for your enjoyment. Click on each event listed below for a description!
For those who loves golf, don’t miss the annual Sherm Smith Memorial Golf Tournament at Highland Walk on Thursday, March 17. Form a team or join a foursome and have fun with friends starting at 11a.m.!
The annual Vision 4 Education of the Women’s Ministry of the IPHC kicks off Homecoming on Friday, March 18 at 10:00 a.m. in the Swails Center. We will host the WM conference directors and their guests as well as many from the Emmanuel College Board of Trustees. The students, staff, and faculty always look forward to this annual event. Lunch is provided for all our guests who attend this event.
By 5:00 p.m. on Friday, the quad will become a festive rendition of a Caribbean get-away. Enjoy the cuisine and festive atmosphere. There will be inflatables for the kids as well as other games and activities for everyone. We will dine outside on the quad, meeting and greeting our friends whom we have not seen in a long time.
First up will be the Socrates Café led by our English faculty. The event will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Friday in the Shaw-Leslie Library. Come and enjoy a stimulating conversation.
An exciting annual event at Homecoming is the EC Fine Arts Café held in Taylor Auditorium at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Featuring musical presentations by the Emmanuel College music department, there is always an exciting variety of performances. Sit at a sidewalk table or simply mill about with friends while you enjoy the music and fun. And be sure to sample the delicious coffee and cakes served for your enjoyment.
If you want a good laugh and some wholesome fun, join your alumni buddies at the Rotondo Bowling Lanes in the Shaw Athletic Center at 8:30 p.m. on Friday. If you can’t make this one, there will be another opportunity on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. Do your stretches and get ready to bowl on Homecoming Weekend.
One of the new features of the Wellons Hall renovation is the outdoor area adjacent to the parking lot. Dubbed Wellons Outback, it will host a bonfire with smores as well as other desserts from a local food truck. A special time of worship will round out our time together. The event is on Friday and will begin at 9:30 p.m.
The Golden Grads will meet for their annual meeting on Saturday, March 19 at 8:30 a.m. in the Shaw Athletic Center. The classes of 1970 and 1971 will be inducted this year. Seeing old friends and catching up is a highlight of the Golden Grads gathering. Breakfast will be provided.
Through the generosity of several donors, the College is pleased to hold dedication ceremonies for three facilities and to present them officially to our alumni.
At 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 19, the new tennis courts will be dedicated. They are located above Stephens Soccer and Lacrosse Fields. Continue on Lions Place past the Shaw Athletic Center and turn onto Lions Lair. Follow the road around Stephen’s Athletic Fields to the new tennis facility.
The Fred Westfall Agriculture Outdoor Classroom will be dedicated at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. This new facility honors the memory of Fred Westfall, a great friend of the College, and provides our diversified agriculture program with needed space for classes, seminars, and demonstrations. Many of Fred’s friends and family have labored diligently to provide funding for this great addition to our campus.
The College is delighted to dedicate the newly renovated Wellons Hall on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. The Wellons family has generously provided the lead gifts to make this dream a reality. Also, many of the men who have lived in Wellons Hall over the years have made significant donations to complete the project. A facelift and new lobby are the crowning achievements of the renovation.
At noon on Saturday, all alumni will gather in the Swails Center for the annual Awards Luncheon. In addition to the delicious meal and fellowship, the President’s Award, the Alumnus of the Year Award, and the Medallion Award will be presented. Also, updates will be provided regarding future plans for the College, especially its move to offer master’s degrees.
If you would like a guided campus tour, join others on Saturday at either 2:30 p.m. or 3:00 p.m. to begin your tour. This will be a great opportunity for new visitors to see the campus. Also, it will fill in the gaps for alumni who have not been on campus for many years.
On Saturday at 2:30 p.m., the College will host the Homecoming Alumni Mixers at the Erby Shaw Plaza adjacent to the Shaw-Leslie Library. This is always a special time to catch up with old friends and to spend time remembering our days as students at Emmanuel.
Come watch the Lions roar throughout the Homecoming weekend. On Friday, March 18, the Lady Lions softball team will host a doubleheader at 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. The Lions baseball program will play at 5:00 p.m. Later that evening at 7:00 p.m., the men’s volleyball team will compete in the Shaw Athletic Center.
On Saturday, softball will host a second doubleheader at noon and 2:00 p.m. while baseball will feature games at 1:00 and 3:30 p.m. And if that’s not enough, tennis plays at 1:00 p.m. on the new courts, and men’s volleyball plays again at 1:30 p.m. So, take your pick and enjoy the fun of some fantastic athletic competition.
On Saturday at 3:00 p.m., we invite you to join us for the Hall of Fame reception in the Shaw Athletic Center. Following the reception at 4:00 p.m., new members will be inducted into the Emmanuel College Hall of Fame. These outstanding athletes will be honored not only for their athletic achievements but also for their life and career accomplishments.
Alumni and friends will gather at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday in the Swails Center for a special time of fellowship, celebration, and worship. The program will feature the Emmanuel Singers and other talented individuals from our campus family. The musical program is always a highlight of Homecoming so don’t miss it.
Homecoming 2022 concludes on Sunday morning with a special worship service at the Springs Church. President Ron White will be the guest speaker that morning. Service begins at 10:30 a.m. Many alums over the years made the Springs Church their place of worship during their time at Emmanuel. There’s no more appropriate way to end the Homecoming celebration than to worship together and honor our Lord who has blessed Emmanuel College and its family over a century of service.
