Check out where our EC Serve Mission Teams are heading during 2020!
Dominican Republic
A team from Emmanuel College will be led by EC Alumni, Adam Beadles to the Dominican Republic from May 4-11, 2020. The team will be stationed in Jarabacoa, Dominican Republic where they’ll work with the children at the Duolos School.
Why did Adam choose to lead this particular trip?
“I have been to the Dominican 10 or so times in the past 8 years,” he said. “They are great people, I love the culture, it’s not too far away or too expensive to travel there either. The areas are very poor in need of help in a variety of ways.”
He hopes this trip will open the eyes of students traveling to the world around them.
“Being in another country where people live very differently from us here in the US will change their change their perspectives,” he said. “Seeing poverty, smelling poverty, serving those in poverty, getting us out of our comfort zones allows growth and change in each of us. Students get to experience seeing just how happy people can live without stuff and convenience – something not seen much here in the US.”

The Awakening Trips
Teams from EC will be traveling with the IPHC World Missions group, The Awakening to Panama (June 16-24, 2020) and the Philippines (July 1-11, 2020). We spoke with Whitney Browning, Coordinator of Public Relations and Communication for The Awakening and she shared what students can expect from these missions opportunities and how we at home can support them.
What type of ministry/work will you be doing?
Each trip is specific to not only the location, but the current needs represented within the community. During each trip, our teams work alongside national leaders on the field who know the spiritual and physical needs of the areas in which we serve. Many times, our teams are used through various service projects, street or door-to-door evangelism, ministering in churches, speaking at schools, and quite simply, bringing the hope of Jesus everywhere we go.
Why did you decide to lead this trip?
We believe the best way to introduce students to missions is by allowing them to experience it first-hand on a short term trip. Every year it is our hope that young people will join a trip and catch a glimpse of what God is doing around the world.
What do you hope students will take away from this opportunity?
You never know what God can do in just one week. We’ve seen Him bring salvation, heal and mend hearts, speak into lives, and use young people in ways they may have never imagined. We believe this generation will change the world. Through trips, we pray that students realize they can be part of that when they say yes to all that God has for them.
What fundraisers will you be doing to raise money for your trip?
Students are the head of their own fund-raising efforts, however, we are here to offer suggestions and help guide them along the way. Whether it’s mailing out a newsletter, selling t-shirts, or running a social media campaign, our team loves helping young people brainstorm and pray with trip participants as they await their full funds to come in.
Where can someone go to donate to your trip?
The easiest way to donate to an Open Team is to write a check to The Awakening with the country and the participants name you are giving to in the memo. Money can also be sent using a MoneyGram or a Money Order. For questions regarding how to give call The Awakening at (405) 792 – 7105.
